Green Colors: Names, HEX Codes & Shades
Green covers a wide stretch of the color wheel, mostly hue angles from about 70° to 160°, and it is the largest family in this library. It includes yellow-greens such as lime and chartreuse, forest and olive greens, and cooler mint and emerald tones. Dark olive-like yellows are filed here too.
Lightness decides how a green behaves. Pure green (#00FF00), named lime, is very light, with 1.37:1 contrast against white. The CSS color green (#008000) reaches 5.13:1 and is comfortable for text and buttons, and dark green (#006400) reaches 7.43:1.

Using green colors
- Success messages and confirmation states, with a check icon or label as well.
- Nature, health, finance and environmental themes.
- Buttons and backgrounds that need white text: choose a mid-dark green, not a bright one.
- Maps and charts, where several greens can separate categories if their lightness differs too.
Green and red are easily confused with red-green color blindness, so never use them as the only signal for pass and fail. Add text, icons or patterns.
For a calm, natural palette pair a muted green with warm neutrals. For an energetic one pair a bright green with dark gray.
