How the families work
Families are browsing categories, not scientific truth. Each color is placed by its hue, saturation and lightness using fixed, published rules: a dark orange is filed under brown, a very light red under pink, and colors with almost no saturation under gray. Style groups such as pastel or vibrant use the same measurements, so one color can appear in several groups.
