About Aqeeb Studio

Aqeeb Studio is an independent solo developer studio creating websites, applications, games, and useful digital tools.

Who is behind the site

Aqeeb Studio is run by Aqeeb Uddin, an independent developer based in India. It is a solo studio: one person designs, builds and maintains each website, app, game and tool. This site is the studio's color encyclopedia and set of free color tools.

You can reach the studio at aqeebuddin75@gmail.com or through the contact page.

What is on the site

Why this site exists

Designers, developers and creators need the same few answers over and over: what is the HEX code for this color, what are its RGB and HSL values, does white text work on it, what goes with it? Many sites bury those answers in ads or ask you to sign up. Aqeeb Studio tries to answer them directly: the value first, then the detail, with tools that run in your browser and need no account.

  • Reference you can trust. Every value is calculated from the color's HEX code, not copied by hand.
  • Tools that respect your work. Colors and images are handled in your browser. Images are not uploaded.
  • Accessibility built in. Contrast ratios, text color advice and a color blindness simulator are part of the site, not an afterthought.

Where to start

How the numbers are calculated

  • Conversions. HEX, RGB, HSL, HSV, HWB and CMYK values come from standard formulas applied to the sRGB value. The CMYK conversion is a simple mathematical one, so treat it as a reference for print work. See CMYK Colors Explained.
  • Contrast. Ratios use the WCAG 2.x relative luminance formula. A ratio is cut off, not rounded up, so a result just below 4.5:1 is never shown as a pass. See Color Contrast and Accessibility.
  • Color difference. “Closest named color” and “how different” use ΔE (CIE76), the straight-line distance between two colors in the CIELAB color space.
  • Color blindness simulation. The simulation applies the matrices published by Machado, Oliveira and Fernandes (2009) to linear RGB values. “Anomaly” types use a moderate severity. It is an approximation for design testing and education, not a medical tool.
  • Page text. The description on each color page is written from that color's measured properties, such as its hue, saturation, lightness, contrast and neighbors, so that every page contains facts specific to that color.

Where the color names come from

Named colors come from the color keywords in the CSS specification and from the XKCD Color Survey, which is released under the CC0 (public domain) dedication. Names are conventions and sources sometimes disagree, so see the Disclaimer for the details.
