Examples
HEX to RGB and HSL
#FF5733 converts to rgb(255, 87, 51) and hsl(11, 100%, 60%). Its CMYK estimate is 0%, 66%, 80%, 0%.
RGB to HEX
rgb(34, 139, 34) becomes #228B22, the CSS color named forestgreen.
Bare numbers
Three numbers such as 255 215 0 are read as RGB and give #FFD700, the CSS color gold.
Tips
- Percentages are accepted inside rgb(), and the hsl() function takes degrees, so most CSS you copy will paste straight in.
- The address bar keeps your last color after the # sign, which makes a conversion easy to share.
- Use the closest-name line under the results to jump to a full color page.
Questions about the Color Converter
Which color formats can I paste?
HEX with 3 or 6 digits, with or without the #; the rgb() and hsl() functions; and bare triples such as 255, 87, 51 or 225, 73%, 57%. Percentages inside rgb() are accepted too.
How accurate are the conversions?
HEX and RGB are exact. HSL, HSV, HWB and CMYK are rounded to whole numbers, so a round trip can differ by one unit. The math follows the standard formulas used by CSS.
Why is CMYK only an estimate?
Real CMYK depends on the inks, paper and printer profile, which a screen cannot know. The values here come from the simple device-independent conversion. They are useful for reference but not for color-managed print work.
What is the decimal value for?
It is the six HEX digits read as one base-10 number. For example #4169E1 is 4286945. Some APIs, spreadsheets and game engines store colors this way.
